[2022] 10 dos & donts with photos: what to *REALLY* wear to a spa?

I recommend helpful products in my article. Access granted to my disclosure.

As Ana Monnar said, “Saturday is a day for spa. Relax, indulge, enjoy and love yourself, too”.

If you want to unapologetically pamper yourself as we always deserve, going to a spa resort and giving yourself some quality time to relax and recharge will never go wrong.

But here’s the tricky thing: What to wear to a spa?

Is my outfit really matter given that I will soon undress upon arrival and cover in a robe?

Well, surprise surprise, spa outfits do play a major role here and I will explain more in the article below.

That said, I’ve gathered 10 spa day outfit ideas with dos and don’ts, keep calm and spa on!

1. WEAR LINEN AS SPA OUTFIT IDEAS

When I went to the spa resort the first time, I was wearing a body-hugging top and skinny jeans.

Well, soon I realized that’s not a good choice when I finished all the heavenly relaxing treatments and change back to my jeans again – these restrictive garments just make me feel tense up!

To me, going to a spa resort is definitely a luxury pleasure and I want to make sure my outfit is appropriate so I have the best experience.

That said, what else is better than wearing something classy, breathable, and lightweight like a linen tunic dress?

Together with a woven tote bag, this outfit is such a mood booster for your trip to the resort.

2. STAY CHILL FOR SPA IN FLOWY ROMPER

Speaking of another failproof spa outfit idea, the one-piece romper just works wonders. It’s cute and flowy.

The best part? It’s body-skimming with a flattering high waist-cinching design.

After all, a spa resort is a perfect place to take some aesthetic Instagram shots.

And nothing is better than wearing your pink floral romper and espadrilles wedge that scream “I’m enjoying my life and no one can stop me”!

3. WHITE TEE & YOGA PANTS FOR SPA DAY

If you gravitate towards a relaxed style, why not consider a crisp white tee and jogger pants?

Seriously, there is no specific dress code for a spa day and you can wear whatever you want if that’s comfortable for you.

Many club spa brings fitness, gym, and spa into one space so wearing yoga pants and leggings are popular choices of wear as well.

4. ALWAYS BRING A KIMONO JACKET WITH YOU

Do you need to bring outerwear for a spa? I’d say yes as some places in the spa resort is air-conditioned and you may want some cover-up.

When it comes to the most versatile piece, a kimono jacket is my all-time favourite.

Featuring the billowy silhouette and bright tone, it just adds a dash of relaxing vacay vibes to your look.

The best part? You can team it with your swimsuit so you don’t have to bring an extra cover-up for that.

Trust me, you will realize how important it is when you are sunbathing beside the pool.

5. BRING A CUTE DRESS FOR SPA RESORT DINNER

Speaking of the luxury spa resort, some of their restaurants do have a dress code.

If you want to stay cute and fancy for the romantic dinner with your partner, bring an LBD and you’ll be all set.

As for the accessories like earrings and necklaces, I would say keep that to minimal as you can easily lose it in a spa resort after 4 treatments in a row.

So yes ladies, focus on your dress and make-up and you’ll never feel anything missing from your look!

6. BRING YOUR OWN ROBE

Can you bring your own robe to the spa? You’re more than welcome to do so. It really depends on your intention.

If you are planning a fancy girl’s spa day and you want to order the personalized robes for your girl pals and take some good shots, go ahead!

But as for the lazy girls like me who don’t want to bring a heavy “suitcase” to the resort, I am totally fine to wear the robes provided by the spa.

7. DON’T FORGET YOUR SWIMSUIT

Let’s be real, spa resort is expensive so ladies, please utilize all the facilities there including the swimming pool.

If you forget to pack the swimsuit, you are literally missing out on a chance to sip your champagne beside the pool and enjoy your life.

And if you want to soak up the sun, don’t forget to bring your sunglasses!

8. PAY ATTENTION TO THE FOOTWEAR

So now it’s time to talk about footwear for the spa day.

Actually, you can wear whatever you want as the spa centre will always provide you with slippers and you’ll probably walk in them all day long.

But if you want to use the gym and other fitness facilities, I’ll suggest you bring your sneakers just in case.

9. WHAT DO YOU WEAR UNDER A ROBE AT A SPA?

It really depends on what treatment you are getting.

For a treatment like a full-body massage, you want to be unclothed so that the massage oil won’t mess up your panty and the Masseuse can really address the muscles all over your body.

As for the spa facial and other treatments, you can always wear your bikinis or swimsuit under the robe.

It can be confusing for the first time but trust me, the whole setting is very professional and it’s not as intimidating as you thought at all.

10. WHAT TO WEAR TO THE SPA ON YOUR PERIOD?

First thing first, I don’t recommend you go to the spa on period especially you are the girls suffering from bloating, tiredness and mood swing – you just can’t enjoy the treatment to the fullest.

But if you insist, I will urge you to wear Bambody absorbent period panty from Amazon. I would say this is a basic spa etiquette to make sure there is no bloodstain on your butt and tights – imagine how embarrassed that is when your Masseuse see that.

Seriously, whether this is for a spa day or not, these panties make my period days much easier. Highly recommend!
