How to dress elegantly plus size? 8 creative tips I wish I knew sooner…

As Giorgio Armani once said, “Elegance is not about being noticed it’s about being remembered”.

When I was young, I dress to impress others but now, I dress to impress myself.

Through elegant dressing, I can express my personality and create my one-of-a-kind aura.

As a pear shape girl, I have to admit some clothes aren’t that flattering on my body.

It takes me a long time to figure out all the tips and tricks to look put together with my clothing and today, it’s my time to contribute!

So ladies, here are my 8 tips on how to dress elegantly as a plus-size, enjoy!

1. Embrace your curves and accentuate them

This is probably the most important tip when it comes to elegant style dressing and I wish I knew this sooner.

For a long time, I just don’t like my curves and all I want to do is hide them with baggy and dark clothing.

Turns out, my body looks even bigger by accentuating the loose cutting.

It takes me a while to realize we should embrace our curves and they are truly one of the best ways to express our femininity and we don’t have to hide it.

So here are some of the ways to embrace your curves:

  • Dressing for your curves by figuring out which body type are you ( Pear, Apple, Inverted Triangle, rectangle, or hourglass? )
  • Wear fitted clothes (Always size up or size down if needed)
  • Wear good-fitted bras and underwear to put things in place
  • Don’t hunch your back to cover big breasts anymore

These tips are simple but they do help us embrace our curves and that enables us to step into elegant style wearing.

I understand that oversize clothing is not always fitted so don’t hesitate to do some tailoring.

With just a small amendment, your clothes can actually hug your curves a lot better and you will feel so confident in them.

So, ladies, there are many ways to embrace our curves so it’s time to throw away our limited beliefs!

DISCLAIMER:

The truth is, we are all perfect imperfections.

You want to learn these outfit hacks ONLY if you feel like it but are not pressured by others. Remember, we never have the need to “fix” our bodies!

You don’t have to be pretty like HER, you can be pretty like YOU.

And believe it or not, there’s still NOT ENOUGH plus-size content around Pinterest and other places on the internet …at all.

So ladies, before reading the tips, please help pin the pin below & support plus-size ladies ♥!

2. Incorporate Pastel and earth-tone colors into your outfit

Yes I know dark colors like black and dark blue are slimming colors but can we talk about how elegant pastel and earth-tone colors look?

Again, I don’t think you should limit yourselves to dark colors just for the sake of looking slimmer, there are many other colors waiting for you to explore!

Pastel colors like baby pink, lavender, and peach are colors with feminine appeal as they are typical floral colors.

These colors are calming, sweet, and natural, creating a softer and more elegant look naturally.

If you do not get used to wearing pale colors completely, you can always start with some dark pastel colors like dusty pink, Dark lake blue instead of baby pink, and light blue!

Added to this, let’s not forget the sophisticated earth-tone colors like khaki, beige, and creamy white.

These colors are flattering on our curves with the right fabric so let’s wear them more.

With monochrome layering, light colors like beige can make us look taller and slimmer visually.

Here are some of the tips you find helpful!

3. Opt for natural fiber instead of polyester

So now you have widened your choice of colors, but when it comes to fiber, it plays a huge role as well.

With the most elegant design, cheap-looking fabric can’t bring the best in clothes, they just don’t.

As plus-size lady, we need fabric that is durable and structured enough to flatter our curves and makes us feel comfortable.

Compare to synthetic fibers like polyester, we should embrace natural fibers like wool and silk more.

Not only do they just naturally look more high-class, but they are also more functional as well.

A vivid example is the baggy big coat in winter. With a big coat that is mainly made from polyester, it’s not as warm as the thin cashmere jacket.

So ladies, if you want to stay polished and less bulky during winter, always pay attention to the fabrics.

4. Wear a corset belt to accentuate your waist

We all know a belt can make us look slimmer but we just never utilize it enough.

A long fluffy dress creates lots of unwanted space and it hides all our feminine curves.

Placing a belt on the high waist just accentuates the thinnest part and makes the long dress look more streamlined and polished.

Among different types of belts, the corset belt is by far the best for plus size.

The corset belt is thicker than the normal belt so it gives way more coverage to the belly area.

There are different types of corset belts and some of them are really elegant and classy to wear.

You can style a corset belt not only for the long dress but for any tops that you want to hide your belly, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Here is the article that you may find useful!

5. Wear Peplum Top or belted top for covering muffin top

For the days you don’t want to wear a belt, peplum tops or belted tops are some of the most flattering tops to make us look slimmer.

Peplum is a slightly flared strip of fabric attached to the high waist area of our top.

With that design, it can completely hide the muffin top. The belt top creates a belt on the high waist and makes our waistline looks refined.

The peplum top and belt top are really elegant and it’s perfect timing to incorporate a light color like beige or dusty pink into your top.

With a pastel belt top, a pair of black jeans, and nude heels, I am sure you look more elegant than wearing dark baggy clothes!

6. Show your shoulder to express elegance

When it comes to elegant dressing, it’s always about expressing our femininity through curves instead of showing too much skin.

Despite showing our curves, another subtle choice is showing the clavicle.

I know some of the curvy ladies are not really keen on showing legs and cleavage, if that’s you, you can always consider wearing an off-shoulder dress or top.

Not only it’s ladylike to show your neckline, but it also accentuates one of the thinnest parts of the body, and that helps to reduce the bulkiness of the upper body.

If off-shoulder isn’t your thing, the boatneck top is another classy choice as well!

On the opposite, always avoid a round neck top as it will make our neck short and have a chubby face.

Among all the designs, a V-neck is always better than a round neck for plus-size ladies!

This is so random… BUT

hey ladies, why not quickly do an affirmation and feel instantly better?

This new year, I’m trying not only to share fashion tips but come up with ways to instill body positivity in all women who are reading my articles – aka YOU!

Instead of just reading it, say it loud or murmur the quotes (if you are in public) to maximize the effect.

Ready? Here we go.

I love my body. She is my forever home and sanctuary.

Sassy isn’t a shape, it’s an attitude.

Work out because I love my body – not because I hate it.

I can love myself and change my body at the same time. No guilt about that.

It is completely normal to have tummy rolls. I come to realize that social media isn’t showing the reality… at all.

My happiest moments in life had nothing to do with the way my body looked.

I don’t have to be pretty like her, I can be pretty like …ME.

I AM perfect imperfection.

What are your thoughts on that? I hope that makes you feel better (as you deserved).

Please help me pass the body positivity message in your community. #womenhelpwomen

7. Wear accessories to brighten up the look

As the sayings go, “Jewelry has the power to be this one little thing that can make you feel unique”.

If you want to look elegant, accessories can definitely help you to elevate your look.

With the right choices of accessories, it can be amazing for a plus-size!

As a chubby cheek girl, I always wear V line long necklace and straight-line earrings to elongate the face lining visually and so it creates an illusion of a longer neckline.

If you are wearing bold earrings, it helps shift people’s attention from your face to the earrings and again, smaller faces!

8. Embrace the outfit with confidence

I know you don’t expect this final tip, but I just can’t help but include this one. Despite all the tips and tricks, if you really want to wear that ruffled dress, just wear it!

When it comes to looking elegant, it’s not just about the outfit itself but most of the time it’s the overall aura that the lady presents.

If you truly love the dress and you carry it with love and confidence, you just set yourself apart from many others.

I know it sounds cliche but that’s the truth. After elegance is not something we can copy, instead, it’s something we should nurture.
