I just went to the Shanghai Fairmont Peace Hotel, and that was amazing!
Walking through the glamorous Art Deco revolving doors of the Fairmont Peace Hotel (和平飯店) feels less like checking into a hotel and more like stepping into a time machine.
Situated right on the bustling corner of Nanjing Road and The Bund, this legendary property has been the crown jewel of Shanghai’s skyline since 1929.
If you want to experience the romance, jazz, and opulence of 1930s “Paris of the East,” this is the ultimate place to be.

If you are planning a visit, keep these essential tips in mind to avoid disappointment:
- Book the Jazz Bar well in advance. This is a non-negotiable. The bar fills up every single night. If you do not have a reservation, you will likely face a massive line or get turned away. Note that there is usually a minimum spend per person.
- Dress the part. While there is no rigid black-tie enforcement, the Peace Hotel is an elegant venue. Leave the flip-flops and athletic tank tops in your luggage, especially for the Jazz Bar and fine dining restaurants. Smart casual is the way to go.

- Expect heavy crowds outside. Because the hotel sits at the intersection of the Bund and Nanjing Road pedestrian street, the exterior is always surrounded by tourists.
- ALSO, give yourself extra time when arriving by taxi, or use the nearby East Nanjing Road metro station to beat the traffic.
