How I successfully cure my dissociation after hearing this 1 sentence (Real life story share)

How I successfully cure my dissociation after hearing this 1 sentence (Real life story share)

Hey loves, it’s Hannah. Welcome back.

Today, I want to share something deeply personal and almost unbelievable.

It’s a story about how powerful our minds truly are—to the point where a single sentence instantly changed my physical reality.

This isn’t a metaphor.

I’m talking about a literal, medical symptom vanishing in an afternoon, all because of what I chose to believe.

If you’ve ever doubted that your thoughts shape your world, this is for you.

The Backstory: A Breakup That Broke More Than My Heart

A few years ago, I went through a devastating breakup. The kind that doesn’t just hurt emotionally; it rewires you.

The worst part?

He was a genuinely good man—supportive, capable, kind.

The breakup wasn’t about his flaws, but about my own immaturity and a problem that felt unsolvable at the time.

After it ended, the weight of regret was crushing.

I saw what I had lost with painful clarity. My lifestyle changed, my joy dimmed, and I slipped into a depression.

I could still function—get out of bed, go through the motions—but a constant, dark hum of sadness followed me everywhere.

Then, my body decided it had had enough.

2. The Unraveling: When My Mind Left My Body

One morning, I woke up and felt… detached. Not just emotionally, but physically. Looking in the mirror was terrifying. The person staring back didn’t feel like me. It felt like I was watching a character from the outside.

I panicked. I pinched my skin, slapped my face, trying to feel something real.

But it was like touching rubber. My mind had seemingly floated outside my body, a stranger to my own flesh. I later learned the medical term: dissociation.

It’s a survival mechanism, your brain’s last-ditch effort to protect you from unbearable mental stress by severing the connection to your physical self.

I fell down an internet rabbit hole, searching for answers on Reddit and YouTube.

It was the worst thing I could have done. I read stories of people living with this for 10 years, 20 years… a lifetime.

The more I read, the more hopeless I felt. I was convinced this was my new, permanent reality—a ghost trapped in my own life.

After days of this torture, I told my mom I loved her, convinced I might not make it through.

My strong, incredible mom insisted I see a psychiatrist.

I refused, certain it was a waste of time. How could a doctor fix what the entire internet said was unfixable?

But I finally went, just to make her happy. I had zero hope.

3. The Sentence That Changed Everything

I sat in that office, pouring out my fear and despair through tears. The psychiatrist listened with immense compassion. After hearing everything, he nodded.

And then he said this, in the most casual, unbothered tone:

“Hannah, I’ve been a psychiatrist for many years. I don’t know about others, but in my experience, every patient who has experienced dissociation like this has fully recovered within a week.”

I was stunned. What?

Here was a trained professional, the opposite of every doom-scrolling forum, telling me with calm certainty that healing wasn’t just possible—it was the expected outcome.

4. The Instant Shift

I walked out of his office, my mind reeling. I was still feeling detached as I walked to my co-working space, waiting at a crosswalk.

And then, just like that… it lifted.

I could feel the sun on my skin again. I could feel the texture of my jacket. I pinched my hand and felt a sharp, real pain. The world snapped back into vibrant, high-definition reality.

The dissociation was gone—not in a week, but in under an hour.

My body had heard a new, authoritative story: “You are safe. This is temporary. You will be whole.” And it believed it so completely that it stopped the emergency protocol instantly.

5. The Lesson I Can’t Unlearn

This experience taught me the raw, undeniable truth:

Sometimes, you don’t believe it because you see it. You see it because you finally believe it.

The narrative we accept becomes our biology. The stories we feed our minds—from forums, from friends, from doctors, from our own internal voice—hold tangible power. They can lock us in survival mode or flip the switch to healing in an instant.

Time for a Brain Audit

6. What script are you running?

Is your environment feeding you stories of possibility, or of limitation?

Are you listening to the voices that say “be practical, you can’t,” or are you seeking out the voices that say “it’s no big deal, you’ve got this”?

What one sentence, if you truly believed it, would change everything for you?

Our minds are not just bystanders; they are the most powerful architects of our reality. It’s time to be ruthless about what—and who—you allow to write your story.

Choose your words, and your sources, like your life depends on it…
Because in a very real way, it does.

Sending you so much love and belief,

Hannah bae
